If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later. 
You will now be asked where you want to save the file. Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. Next, click Download from (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Go to Piriform's website, and click the big button. You can download and run speccy to post your specs: This is the most common cause of random beeps from my experience. You can watch your screen as well and see if it goes from plugged in and charging to just running on battery. Or take a picture and post it here.Īs a quick test, you can wiggle the cord near where it plugs into the laptop and listen for the beeps. You can visually inspect the jack that is built into the laptop for problems. This might indicate a problem with the power adapter cord or the power adapter itself, or the jack inside of the computer. A lot of laptops make a beep when you plug in or unplug the power adapter (Lenovo is well known for this). It's probably best and safest to procure a replacement supply before doing any damage to yourself or your computer.Do you hear the beep at completely random times or more so during gaming? Since this is a laptop, it could be a lose/intermittent power connection problem. Most power supplies like this are very difficult to open up to inspect not recommended unless you know what you're doing and don't mind voiding any warranty. If it's more of a hiss or sparking sound, you might have bad components that are arcing internally, etc. If it's a high-pitched whine or hum, it might be just fine. Measure the output using a voltmeter to see if it's within tolerance of the stated specifications. There might be a problem with mains power causing it. 
(The Dell supply I mentioned hums under light/no load, and has been fine for years.)Ī switching power supply essentially turns on and off at a high speed, and it is this cycling that can cause an audible sound. If it hums when under light or no load, it may simply be that it's making the noise as the switching circuit engages less often. My experience has been that if the power supply hums or makes noise when under load, it's probably an indication of impending failure. Under the light load, the supply may hum more loudly or not at all. When the laptop is on, backlight at full, charging the battery, etc, the power supply will be under more load than when the laptop is powered off and the battery is full (or not present). You should try putting different loads on it. Some switching/regulated power supplies seem to have a hum or a whine moreso than others.
